Lip fillers
Fuller, well-shaped lips in balance with your face. Built up subtly by the doctor, with a choice of basic and premium fillers.
Cheekbone fillers are injections of firm hyaluronic acid filler that add contour to the cheekbones and restore lost volume in the cheeks, so the midface looks fresher and better supported. At Zalat Clinics in Rotterdam, cheekbones and cheeks are treated by our BIG-registered doctor personally, with attention to the proportions of your whole face. The aim is a rested look, not round or overfilled cheeks.
The midface supports much of the rest of the face. With age, volume in the cheeks decreases and the fat pads descend slightly. The cheekbones become less visible, the cheeks flatter, and as a result the tear trough and nasolabial folds can also look deeper.
Cheekbone fillers are placed deep, close to the bone. A firm hyaluronic acid filler, for example from the Juvéderm or Restylane range, provides support there and a subtle lift to the midface. The doctor often starts at the outer cheekbone, where a small amount already has a clear effect, and only then works on the front of the cheek.
Cheekbone and cheek fillers are available from €250 per ml. For a natural result, 1–2 ml spread over both sides is often enough. You will know the price beforehand at the free consultation.
Apple cheeks are the round curves at the front of the cheeks that show most when you smile. They give the face a fresh, youthful look. After weight loss or over the years they flatten.
With a small amount of filler the doctor can subtly support the apple cheeks. Here, less is more. Too much volume at the front quickly looks overfilled and round. That is why apple cheeks are usually combined with a light correction at the side of the cheek, so the face stays in balance.
Hollow or sunken cheeks are caused by volume loss below the cheekbone, for example with age, intensive exercise or weight loss. The face can then look narrow, stern or tired, even when you feel fine.
Filler can carefully fill the hollow below the cheekbone so the face looks softer and healthier. With marked skin laxity or a very hollow face, filler can only help to a limited extent. A biostimulator such as Sculptra or Radiesse is sometimes a better fit, possibly in combination. The doctor will discuss this with you honestly.
Suitable for women and men aged 18 or over. Not during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and not with an active skin infection in the area. The treatment often suits:
The doctor looks at your face from the front, in profile and in different light, and explains where volume would help most. You receive advice on the number of millilitres and a fixed price.
The skin is cleansed and disinfected. The filler contains a local anaesthetic; numbing cream can be used if needed.
The doctor places the filler with a fine needle or blunt cannula in small amounts, checking symmetry throughout. This takes about 30–45 minutes.
After two weeks any swelling has gone. At the free check-up we assess together whether a small top-up would be worthwhile.
The cheeks may feel tender and slightly swollen for a few days. A bruise is possible and usually fades within a week. You can reach the doctor via WhatsApp if you have questions.
Serious complications are rare. Very rarely, filler can block a blood vessel (vascular occlusion). The doctor knows the anatomy of the midface and knows how to act immediately. Contact us straight away if you notice increasing pain or pale, bluish or blotchy skin. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved if needed.

On average 12 to 18 months. Because a firm filler is placed deep on the bone, the result lasts longer than in the lips. It varies by person and product.
For most people, yes, if the apple cheeks have flattened through volume loss. A small amount makes them look fuller without looking overfilled.
Often, yes, when the cause is volume loss. With a lot of skin laxity the effect is limited and a biostimulator is sometimes a better fit. The doctor will advise you at the consultation.
Not when it is done gradually and in small amounts. The doctor starts at the outer cheekbone and, if in doubt, prefers to do less.
