Nasolabial fold filler in Rotterdam

A nasolabial fold filler is an injection of hyaluronic acid that softens the fold between the side of the nose and the corner of the mouth, so the face looks less tired and stern. At Zalat Clinics in Rotterdam, nasolabial folds are treated by our BIG-registered doctor personally, often partly via the cheeks, because that is usually where the fold begins. This keeps the result natural and avoids an overfilled mouth area.

What are nasolabial folds?

The nasolabial fold, sometimes called the smile line or laugh line, runs from the side of the nose diagonally down to the corner of the mouth. Everyone has this fold; it belongs to an expressive face and deepens when you smile. Over the years it also becomes more visible at rest.

That is only partly due to the fold itself. An important cause is volume loss in the midface: the cheeks flatten and descend slightly, putting more weight on the fold. Genetics, sun damage and smoking also play a role.

Why the cheeks are often part of the solution

A common mistake is to fill the fold itself heavily. It seems logical, but too much filler directly in the fold makes the mouth area heavy and creates an overfilled, unnatural look, especially when you smile.

The doctor therefore looks at the cheeks first. A small amount of firm filler on the cheekbone restores support to the midface and lifts the fold slightly. After that, often only a little soft filler in the fold itself is needed to soften what remains. The aim is a softer fold, not one that has disappeared completely.

Nasolabial fold filler is available from €250 per ml. How many millilitres you need and whether the cheeks are treated as well, you will hear beforehand at the free consultation, with a fixed price.

Who is it suitable for?

Suitable for women and men aged 18 or over. Not during pregnancy or breastfeeding and not with an active skin infection. With very lax skin or heavy, sagging cheeks, the effect of filler is limited; the doctor will tell you honestly. The treatment often suits:

  • a nasolabial fold that is visible at rest and makes you look older or more tired
  • volume loss in the cheeks that makes the fold look deeper
  • a fold that is deeper on one side than the other

How does the treatment work?

  1. 01

    Free consultation

The doctor looks at your face at rest and while you talk and smile, and explains whether the cheek, the fold or a combination would help most. You receive a fixed price.

  2. 02

    Preparation

The skin is cleansed and disinfected. The filler contains a local anaesthetic; numbing cream can be used if needed.

  3. 03

    Treatment

The doctor places the filler with a fine needle or blunt cannula in small amounts. This takes about 30–45 minutes.

  4. 04

    Free check-up after two weeks

After two weeks the filler has settled. At the free check-up we review the result together.

Aftercare and possible side effects

Mild swelling, tenderness and a bruise can occur and usually fade within a few days. Small irregularities in the first days are normal. You can reach the doctor via WhatsApp if you have questions.

Serious complications are rare. An important blood vessel runs along the nasolabial fold; very rarely, filler can block a blood vessel (vascular occlusion). The doctor knows the anatomy, often uses a cannula in this area and knows how to act immediately. Contact us straight away if you notice increasing pain or pale, bluish or blotchy skin around the nose or lip.

  • for the first 24 hours: no exercise, sauna or alcohol
  • no make-up on the injection points on the first day
  • do not massage or press on the area in the first week

Frequently asked questions

How much does nasolabial fold filler cost?

Nasolabial fold filler is from €250 per ml. Sometimes the cheeks are treated as well. The final price is agreed beforehand at the free consultation.

Will the fold disappear completely?

No, and that is not the aim. Everyone has this fold. The goal is a softer fold at rest, so you look fresher but still smile naturally.

Why would the doctor treat my cheeks for a fold?

Because the fold often deepens through volume loss in the cheeks. By supporting the midface first, less filler is needed in the fold and the result looks more natural.

How long does the result last?

On average 9 to 12 months in the fold and often longer in the cheeks. It varies by person and product.

Can the filler be dissolved if I am not happy?

Yes. Because it is hyaluronic acid, the doctor can dissolve the filler if needed. We first discuss the result at the free check-up after two weeks.
