Wrinkles: frown lines, crow's feet & forehead
Soften frown lines, crow's feet and forehead lines with a subtle treatment, so you look rested while keeping your natural expressions.
Forehead lines are softened with a small amount of muscle relaxant in the forehead muscle, which creates horizontal lines when you raise your eyebrows. At Zalat Clinics in Rotterdam-Zuid, BIG-registered doctor Dr. Pravesh Gadjradj treats forehead lines personally, balancing a smoother forehead with light, natural-looking brows. The consultation is free and you know the price in advance.
The forehead muscle (frontalis) runs vertically across the forehead and is the only muscle that lifts your eyebrows. Every time you look surprised, open your eyes wide or talk expressively, the skin above it folds into horizontal lines. At first these lines only show when you move. Over the years the skin becomes thinner and less elastic, and forehead lines remain visible at rest as well.
If you use your forehead a lot without noticing, for example to lift heavy eyelids, lines can appear as early as your mid-twenties.
A muscle relaxant is a prescription medicine that temporarily dampens the signal from nerve to muscle. The doctor places a number of very small injections spread across the forehead, so the muscle contracts less strongly. The skin folds less and existing lines soften. Lines you only see when moving often fade largely; deep lines that are visible at rest usually become shallower but not completely smooth.
Because the forehead muscle lifts the eyebrows, a dose that is too high or badly placed can make the forehead or brows feel heavy. That is the main reason the forehead calls for experience and conservative dosing. The doctor deliberately leaves the lowest part of the forehead, just above the brows, largely untreated and takes the position of your brows and eyelids into account.
It is often sensible to treat the frown lines at the same time. The frown muscles pull the brows down; if only the forehead relaxes, the brows can sit lower. If you naturally have low brows or heavy eyelids, the advice may also be to treat the forehead very lightly or not at all.
With a baby or mini treatment the doctor uses a lower dose. Your forehead remains clearly mobile, while the lines become softer. This option suits you if you are considering treatment for the first time, if you mainly have fine lines, or if you want to prevent lines from deepening.
The doctor looks at your forehead, brows and eyelids at rest and in motion and discusses your health and any medication. You receive advice on the dose and a fixed price.
After cleansing the skin, a few small injections are given with a very fine needle. Numbing is usually not needed; the treatment takes 10–15 minutes.
After 3–5 days the forehead contracts less. The full result is visible after about two weeks.
The doctor assesses your brow position and the smoothness of the forehead. A small adjustment follows if needed.
Most people can return to work straight away. Small bumps fade within an hour; a bruise or mild headache occasionally occurs. If you have questions you can reach the doctor via WhatsApp.
A baby or mini forehead treatment is available from €95. One full area costs €120. If you combine the forehead with the frown lines, two areas cost €170, and adding crow's feet makes three areas for €229. You can read more about frown lines and crow's feet on our anti-wrinkle injections page. The final price is agreed during the consultation; the consultation and the two-week check-up are free.

On average 3–4 months. After that, movement of the forehead muscle gradually returns. With a baby treatment the effect may wear off slightly sooner.
Partly. A muscle relaxant usually makes deep lines shallower, but it does not fully smooth lines that have been visible at rest for years. With repeated treatment they have less chance to deepen; sometimes a skin treatment is a useful addition.
The risk exists but is small with careful dosing. The doctor leaves the lower forehead largely untreated and often recommends treating the frown lines as well. A heavy feeling is temporary and fades as the effect wears off.
A baby treatment uses a lower dose, so more movement remains. Lines soften but the forehead is not completely smooth. A full area usually gives a smoother result that also lasts a little longer.
Not always, but it often gives a more balanced result. If only the forehead relaxes, the frown muscles can pull the brows down slightly. During the consultation the doctor advises what suits your face.

A low dose of muscle relaxant above the upper lip lets the lip roll out slightly, showing more of the red part without adding volume.
Show less gum when you smile: a small dose of muscle relaxant makes the upper lip lift less high, while your smile stays natural.
