Wrinkles: frown lines, crow's feet & forehead
Soften frown lines, crow's feet and forehead lines with a subtle treatment, so you look rested while keeping your natural expressions.
A lip flip is a treatment in which a small amount of muscle relaxant relaxes the ring muscle above the upper lip, so the lip rolls slightly outwards and more of the red part shows. No volume is added. At Zalat Clinics in Rotterdam, BIG-registered doctor Dr. Pravesh Gadjradj performs every lip flip personally, after a free consultation in which you hear the price in advance.
Around the mouth lies a ring muscle (orbicularis oris) that you use to pucker, whistle or drink through a straw. In some people this muscle pulls the upper lip inwards when they smile, so the lip looks thin or almost disappears. The doctor gives a few very small injections just above the lip border. The muscle relaxes slightly and the upper lip rolls a little outwards.
A lip flip suits you best if your upper lip has reasonable volume but curls inwards when you smile. If you want genuinely fuller lips, lip filler is usually the better choice. The doctor looks at your lips at rest, while talking and while smiling, and advises against a lip flip if the effect would be too small for what you hope to achieve.
A lip flip is less suitable if your upper lip is very thin with little visible red lip: there is then little to roll outwards. If you play a wind instrument or sing a lot, mention this beforehand, as you also need the ring muscle around the mouth for that.
We do not show before and after photos on our website. During the consultation the doctor does show you examples, so you get a realistic picture of what a lip flip does.
Immediately after treatment you will not see a difference, apart from tiny injection marks. After 3–7 days the upper lip starts to roll slightly outwards. After about two weeks the result is complete: a little more of the red lip shows, the lip looks fuller and it disappears less when you smile. At rest the difference is subtle; people around you usually notice a fresher mouth without knowing exactly why. The shape of the lower lip and the volume do not change. After 2–3 months the effect gradually wears off.
A lip flip changes the position of the upper lip by relaxing a muscle. Lip filler adds real volume with hyaluronic acid, can refine the shape of both lips and lasts on average 6–12 months. A lip flip is more subtle, less expensive and shorter-lasting. The two combine well: with a lip flip, the volume of a small amount of filler stays more visible when you smile. Lip filler is available from €125.

Four to six tiny injections are given along the upper lip with a very fine needle. This takes about 10 minutes.
The doctor assesses the result and discusses whether a small top-up would be useful.
In the first weeks, drinking through a straw, whistling or pronouncing a p or b may feel slightly different. You usually get used to it quickly, and it disappears as the effect wears off. A slightly uneven smile occurs rarely. If you have questions you can reach the doctor via WhatsApp.
If the dose is too high or the placement unfavourable, the upper lip may feel a little weak or look slightly uneven for a while. That is why the doctor doses conservatively and chooses the injection points carefully; this also resolves on its own as the effect wears off.
A lip flip costs from €75; depending on the amount needed, the price is between €75 and €90. The final price is agreed during the consultation. The consultation and the two-week check-up are free. It is a cosmetic treatment and is not covered by health insurance.

On average 2–3 months. You move your mouth a lot, so the effect lasts shorter than on the forehead, for example. Many people then repeat the treatment or choose a combination with filler.
The difference is subtle. You mainly see more of the upper lip when you smile; at rest the lip looks slightly fuller. During the consultation the doctor shows examples, so you know what to expect.
Yes. Talking and eating are normal. Drinking through a straw or whistling may be a little harder in the first weeks; this eases as the effect wears off.
Yes, in the same appointment. The filler adds volume and the lip flip helps the upper lip roll inwards less when you smile. During the consultation the doctor discusses which combination suits your lips.
Most people find it very tolerable. It involves a few brief pinpricks with a very fine needle. Numbing is usually not needed.
No. The muscle relaxant is placed just above the border of the upper lip, into the ring muscle, not into the red of the lip. No volume is added; only the position of the lip changes. If you want more volume in the lip itself, lip filler is the appropriate treatment.
Soften frown lines, crow's feet and forehead lines with a subtle treatment, so you look rested while keeping your natural expressions.
Soften horizontal forehead lines with a low, evenly spread dose of muscle relaxant, so your eyebrows stay light and expressive.
Show less gum when you smile: a small dose of muscle relaxant makes the upper lip lift less high, while your smile stays natural.
